The Wigmore Chronicle |
| The
Wigmore Chronicle is a largely forgotten set of annals written in
Wigmore abbey in the last years of the fourteenth century.
Two partial copies of this work survive. The first copy runs from
1066 to 1306, although the first page from 1066 to 1090 has been defaced to
illegibility. The second section runs from
1355 to 1377 and has a singular entry for 1349. These two
works need bringing together again and translating into modern English,
which has never been attempted before. The final product will
include an English translation and a transcript in expanded Latin of
the original work and both will be extensively cross-referenced to
other contemporary Medieaval chronicles. Such a work would open the path for the study and translation of the much denigrated Mortimer genealogy and would throw further light on this interesting family. Interesting snippets of information will be added below as the translation work progresses. |
